Review from,
York City Screen - 11th Feb 2005
|
Come on folks, where the hell were you? The City Screen Basement Bar is a progressive gig to play and a well sorted niche when there's enough people who like wholesome music to even half fill the place. But only a handful for these two noteworthy accomplished bands? Shame on y'all. Sort it out. Mr. Parker. Effortlessly groovy. Effortlessly funky. Effortlessly professional. They played a brief set of their finest tunes and melded classical and electric guitar, bass, drums, congas and three vocals effectively and certainly consolidated a good time feel in the reverberant basement Mr. Parker fed us with honest and wholesome chunks of rhythm and warm bass lines and slices of melody and harmony. Articulate musicians to the core: seeing them is a must in future. |

Mr Parker had been looking forward to this one for about seven weeks. The highest point in the Yorkshire dales, with an exciting history and some very well known acts throughout the years have played here. We set off in good spirits and arrived in good time for a very well earned traditional pub meal! Think we all really wanted to get our heads down for a couple of hours after the "HUGE" meal but had to get straight on with the sound check which went smooth. Both bands there were happy and feeling good. Mr Parker opened with their catchy “Headlong” track which went down with some good appreciation, especially from the travelling army. The band had good momentum through “Now is to forget”, “Breakaway” and “Today is for love”. The night was a good experience for Parker and Matt even got a nice snog off some drunken blonde (say no more) in the early hours of the morning. Bonus?! Mr Parker. |

Review from,
City Screen, York - 10th March 2005

The City Screen is always a great venue for us and tonight was no exception. We managed to get a local band from York to support, they used to be called Highsound now, The Cellars. The drummer and I used to play in a band together about 10 years ago. They were good! Nice blend of Indie with bright melodic keyboard sounds. By the time we got on, the place had become moderately full. You have to understand the photos make it look as if no one was there, but there is a small barrier that separated the seating off from the stage. (Photos can be found in the images section of the site) The sound was great, we were confident and apart from a couple of strings breaking which caused a little set back the night was a great success. Good gig lads. Cheers again to DJ Hoop for always playing some groovy tunes in between. James Goodwin

Review from, City Screen, York - 29th April 2005 |
The City Screen, York, is always a nice place to play. This was a special occasion as this was Mr Parker’s first outing with Supafi. This was one of the few nights in York where punter aren’t bombarded with Athlete and Amarillo. Am I the only person in the country that sees Athlete as a complete waste of time, space and money? Anyways, now that’s off my chest I can proceed with the rest of my expert analysis?!?! All was going well, we managed to avoid all of the usual mishaps, lateness, lack of equipment and engine failure! This of course lured us all into a false sense of security. It was only a matter if time before the dreaded curse parker raised it’s ugly head! After all it was Friday night who could blame the bass amp for wanting a night off. This proved no problem for John, Mr Parker’s professional, handsome bass player. Meanwhile on stage the four Charlie partners were playing a blinder. Musical Matt become even more musical by digging out his flute and reworking a lovely rendition of green sleeves into ‘Time was’. Words of praise were instantly withdrawn when he thought it would be a good idea to remix the encore (Melioration) by accidentally tapping the beat button on the keys and subjecting the audience to one of casio’s finest drum beats. Even so this was one if the most enjoyable gigs had. A thoroughly bloody nice time had by all, I hope!? John – Mr Parker.

Review from, Sheffield University 20th Sep |
This was going to be the biggest night of the band's lives. A thousand screaming students, Mr Parker were ready with a mini bus full of gear and close friends. Designated driver Darren 'I like a toke' Walker set off with a noisy, ready for it bus load. Everyone was excited and we all know why. On arrival we saw where we were playing, a bit of a let down. It was in the bar not the student hall which could fit around 200 max. It wasn't going to be the screaming atmosphere we expected but we still thought, hay, think of the girls! and they did arrive, slowly!! We got set up and played a fine set with our possy from York and Wakefield creating an atmosphere which turned a few student heads. Yes, the students were screaming and a few were dancing, we saw a few smiles of appreciation from the crowed. We gave Sheffield a night of jazzy original tunes. Some weren't bothered, some were in ore. After we finished playing we did what only true rock n rollers do, get absolutely hammered. The journey home was long, Darren must have smoked to many as we must have only gone 30 miles and it took us 3 hours!! Wake up Walker. Lets have some more of these!! James Goodwin. |
Gig Info from, Local News, York - 7th Aug 2004 |
LEADING figures from the York food world – including a musical chef – are cooking up a treat for good causes. Outside caterer Diana Naish, her head chef Robert James and city restaurateur Michael Hjort have been invited to provide the lord Mayor’s Dinner at the mansion House on August 12. The trio are giving their time free, and have created a mouth-watering Yorkshire meal featuring locally sourced ingredients for the black tie dinner. The dinner will raise cash for the Lord Mayor’s charities, the York and North Yorkshire Community Foundation, York One World Linking Association and the York Festival of Food and Drink, which runs from September 10 to 19. The Curtain closer in St Sampson's Square will feature a whole Yorkshire pig being roasted, a bar and a performance by Mr Parker - the band fronted by her second chef, James Goodwin.
